Position Overview:
The Senior Tax Director will play a key leadership role in overseeing tax preparation and planning for a variety of client needs including individual, business, trust, 501(c)(3), and gift tax returns. This is a non-traditional public accounting role with no business development requirements. However, revenue-sharing opportunities are available for those who bring existing or future client relationships. This position also supports internal financial operations and may contribute to broader financial advisory services.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation, review, and filing of client tax returns
Advise clients on amended or corrected filings and withholding strategies
Collaborate with financial advisors to optimize tax planning
Oversee internal financial operations, accounting, and delegation of tasks to support staff
Conduct research and projections for client tax planning and strategy
Manage general accounting and bookkeeping services for the firm and clients
Review internal payroll and bookkeeping accuracy
Mentor junior CPA team members
Develop and refine systems and processes for tax operations
Maintain clear communication with clients about timelines and expectations
Support mid-year and year-end evaluations to improve efficiency
Assist with preparation and filing of the firm's own tax returns
Qualifications:
Active CPA license (North Carolina or reciprocity)
10+ years of experience in tax planning, preparation, and strategy
Strong leadership and mentoring skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
Proficiency with financial/accounting software and tools
Preferred Tools/Tech Stack:
CCH Axcess, QuickBooks, SafeSend, Bill.com, Excel, Canopy, Microsoft Office 365
